The inaugural Long Island Sound Blackfish Tournament will be open to the public and will take place throughout the entire Long Island Sound, with weigh in locations in both NY and CT. 50% of the total registration fees will be used to pay cash prizes to 14 registered anglers who weigh in the heaviest blackfish, the remaining 50% (minus minor fixed costs) will be donated to United Cerebral Palsy of Long Island and be directed towards their programs and services for children with disabilities. No one associated with the tournament will receive any form of compensation.
United Cerebral Palsy of Long Island serves hundreds of people with disabilities each year. Importantly, 65% of the children and adults they serve have a disability other than cerebral palsy, including intellectual disabilities, autism, traumatic brain injury, physical and acquired disabilities, and more. UCP provides early intervention, preschool, and school age programming for children with a range of physical and developmental disabilities. Additionally, more than 200 adults and 30 children receive services and care in UCP family-centered residential homes. They also provide the career counseling and job training that help a person with a disability maximize his potential, obtain employment and achieve independence. The tournament is being scheduled to take place on October 24, 2020, which is the peak time for blackfishing in Long Island Sound. Through promotion in both online and print media, we are hoping to attract hundreds, if not thousands of participants. In addition to the cash prizes paid from the registration fees, we will be offering a $5,000 cash prize bonus to the angler who catches a specially tagged fish, that will be released into the Long Island Sound prior to the start of the tournament, and will also offer a $1000 bonus prize for any angler who weighs in a blackfish in excess of 15lbs.
We are looking for sponsors who may wish to help underwrite the funding of these bonus prizes, as well as donations of gear that can be given to participants, or used as free raffle prizes which may serve to attract participation. Any donations of high end gear (retail value of $250 or greater) will be auctioned to participants, with the full proceeds going to UCP-LI.
As a sponsor, we will include your name or logo on the tournament website as well as any promotional print material that may be utilized to get the word out to the large population of avid blackfishermen and women in the NY Metropolitan area.
We hope that your organization will consider becoming a sponsor and would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this in greater detail with you.
Thank you very much for your consideration of our request. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have or with interest in sponsoring this very exciting event.
